Comet chooses Bio-D as ethical partner in unique initiative

Leading electrical retailer Comet has teamed up with UK ethical business Bio-D to sell ethical laundry products in all its stores.

The initiative sees Bio-D’s environmentally responsible, hypoallergenic and chemical free Laundry Liquid and concentrated Lavender Fabric Conditioner on sale alongside washing machines and washer dryers in 250 stores throughout the UK.

Commenting on the launch, Comet’s Assistant Buyer for Home Appliance Essentials Robert Macpherson-Smith said; “As an increasing number of washing machine purchase decisions are based on energy efficiency grades and environmental concerns, it makes sense to offer consumers a laundry brand that respects the environment too.”

Of the deal, Bio-D’s Managing Director Lloyd Atkin said; “We applaud Comet’s thinking and look forward to extending distribution of Bio-D’s best selling laundry lines both into Comet’s stores and online.”

Robert continued; “We selected Bio-D because we identified with the company’s ethos and we know that the fact that they are UK made is important to our customers.”

The new lines are in store and online now. The RSP of the 1 litre Laundry Liquid is £4.99 and the 1 litre Lavender Fabric Conditioner is £3.99, but both are on offer for £6.00 when bought with a washer or washer/dryer.

Independent company Bio-D manufactures environmentally responsible cleaning and laundry products that are UK made, effective, biodegradable and hypoallergenic. In addition, they are produced from sustainable, naturally derived raw materials and do not contain petrochemicals, chlorine or optical brighteners. All of the Bio-D range is suitable for use with septic tanks and are BUAV and Vegan Society approved.

Bio-D was founded in 1988 by naval entrepreneur Michael Barwell who was inspired to set up a business producing ecologically responsible cleaning products by a paper written about pollution from domestic effluent by Canadian A.M.Gower. It is now owned by Sara Holtby and Lloyd Atkin.
